Being Found

"And be found in Him." - Phillippians 3:9

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now I'm found,
Was blind but now I see.
How do you find Christ? You can find Him if you are looking for Him. He is accessible, approachable, and is both knowable and beyond knowing. Mary and Joseph found Him in the temple, in His Father's house after three days of searching (Luke 2:46). Andrew told his brother, Peter, "We have found the Messiah!" (John 1:41). Paul told the Athenian crowd that "He is not far from each one of us" (Acts 17:27). God Himself says we will find Him if we search wholeheartedly (Jer. 29:13,14).

But how are you found?
When Christ found you, where were you? What were you doing? Before he had ever knowingly met the Lord, Jesus met Nathaniel under a fig tree (John 1:48). When Jesus met Peter, He changed his name (John 1:42). Peter did not begin to understand Who He Was until they went fishing (Luke 5:1-11).

When we honestly find Christ, it is always on His terms - at the cross, where payment was made for us, where we confess and submit to His lordship, and where we die. We maintain our own death so that His life - and His alone - is presented to those around us.

And us? We are buried with Him in baptism so that we might be raised to walk in newness of life; the old has passed away, behold! new things have come. We are now seated with Him in the heavenlies, and are found in Him, having only His righteousness which is through the faith of Christ.

Let us be so found, doing what we see our Father doing. Let us be found in Him.
